Fishing Report- Mettawee River, 7/18/2015
I finally made a long-overdue trip to the Mettawee, a stream I haven’t fished in three or four years. I parked at the Fish and Wildlife access site and fished both up and down stream from there. I forgot how much it reminds me of the small streams I grew up with. I thought the overnight rain and overcast sky would make for a productive day, but I was wrong. Not a fish or rise was to be seen. I tried several nymphs, drys, and a few streamers, but couldn’t make anything happen. The water level looked good for mid-July, and it felt cool enough to get the fish moving. Lots of runs and holes, even a few pools that looked worthwhile. There is plenty of brush along the banks for cover and shade, which makes casting a bit of a trick. Be prepared to loose more than one fly if you give it a try.
