Battenkill Fishing, 4/26/14
Spent a cold couple of hours on the Battenkill in Arlington this morning. The water level was pretty good. It is still high, about the same as a week ago in spite of last night’s rain. It is still quite cold and if you don’t have insulated waders you’d do well to dress in layers. The overcast conditions and damp air didn’t help my comfort level at all. Not much insect activity, but there were a few small caddis and stone flies out. I’m not positive but I think I saw a rise, or at least a fish grab something just below the surface. If you like fishing bait or nymphing, conditions aren’t bad. Conditions are still a little cold for the trout to really be active, but it’s certainly worth getting out if you can tolerate it.
